Mobile%20Pic %20SAsia%202I was just reading an article at Mobile Marketing Magazine and, when I read the following quote, I had to bring it to your attention because I'm so tired of the smartphone (and even tablet) craze being pushed even when it comes to reaching out to the unreached of the developing world.  Listen to what Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, has to say about what it takes to succeed in the developing world:

you can’t take an app designed for the US and Europe, and apply it to Africa, it just does not work. That has been the approach taken by our US competitors, and they have all failed, because they ignored the reality of the target market. They said: ‘Let’s wait two years, and they will be same as us, but they are not. Our app is designed in a way that respects the target market, and so it can succeed. It works on smartphones, but it also works on a Nokia 1100, the most popular phone in Africa. If your app does not work in text-only mode on a non-data-enabled device, you are immediately removing 60 - 70 per cent of your target market

... it is essential that the product works on entry level phones, and respects the reality of these regions, but also works on higher end phones too. 

Ignore this to the peril of those to whom the humble "dumb" or "feature" mobile phone is one of the only potential lifelines to the Good News!!! 

Jesus came for the least and the poorest and to focus on smartphones and tablets is to prefer the rich over the poor (consider James 2) and the capabilities of the few over the needs of the many.  May our ministries focus less on the latest and greatest and more on getting the Gospel to the least and poorest!
